Defintions

Here is a collection of terms that I've come to use while developing MapGen.

Terrain Type

Procedural Terrain
water (seas, rivers, etc…) and mountains, so called because they are defined by a height map which is a two dimension function

Grown Terrain
plain, farm, forest, swamp, waste, so called because they are generated with methods similar to single cell automatons

Province Size

Province size is determined by the ratio of area of a province to the expected average area of a province. This ratio is defined as

(1)
\begin{align} \varepsilon=\frac{sn}{xy} \end{align}

Small

(2)
\begin{align} 0 < \varepsilon \leq \frac{1}{2} \end{align}

Medium

(3)
\begin{align} \frac{1}{2} < \varepsilon \leq 2 \end{align}

Large

(4)
\begin{align} 2 < \varepsilon \end{align}
